29th of Tarsakh, Year of the Ageless One; 447 North Reckoning

In the early hours of dawn, we came across a ruined tower, barely discernible as such, squatting crumbled in a rocky clearing. Inside the husk of stones was erected a large red tent in what would have been the center of the ground floor. A tense hush washed over our group; we felt the presence of eyes upon our backs as we cautiously approached the tent. Weapons at the ready, Kirok and Hanzo slipped past the parted entrance of the tent, while Azun covered them with his elvish bow.

A small, hunched figure wheeled around to confront the pair of interlopers, brandishing either a long curved dagger or a short sabre. It was dressed in fine silks from the East and bore the visage of a large rat. Kirok, with his great dual bladed axe, and Hanzo, with his elegant Eastern longsword, made short work of the creature. A thorough investigation of the tent reviled there was magic afoot, as the dimensions of the interior did not match those seen outside. Fine furnishings not native to these Northlands decorated the room and Rollo discovered a cheast which bore potion flasks and an ornate ring bearing Netherese runes.

Outside, Gizig had discovered an open pit with a silk rope ladder leading down beneath the foundation. Curiously, the bottom, which seemed to be a chamber of sorts, was illuminated - not by flickering torchlight - but by some arcane means. The party descended into the lower level and discovered hallways stretching to the east and west. We decided to follow the illumination to the west, where after a short time we encountered a tattooed bald man in flowing red robes in the company of more of the Ratmen. The Red Wizard began casting a spell only to be fatally interrupted by Azun's arrow, yet the Ratmen attacked as a pack with considerable fury. Blades and teeth slashed and gnashed in the subterranean passageway, until the Nine from Neverwinter reigned victorious.

The chaos of the combat attracted a giant serpent which poisoned the Storm Caller and cut short our exploration of the ruined tower … hopefully Kirok and Arcandius can forage enough healing herbs to save our downed comrade ...
